House extension and refurbishment

The brief was to provide accommodation for a family of four in a city terraced house. The house is unusual in that it is overlooked by a terrace of houses to the rear and the clients also needed to park their car at the rear.

A garage was demolished and an extension was added to the rear to accommodate a long run of kitchen units and a dining table. Planting separates a terrace from the parked car. The design of the extension offers a level of privacy yet also plenty of natural light. An eaves skylight gives views of the sky, whilst shielding the parked car, and a corner window and large glazing connect the living spaces with the sunny, sheltered terrace.

The buff coloured brick visually connects with the surrounding 19th century and contemporary houses.
